The cosmos engraved in time
“With STARMAN, I sought to express the poetry of the cosmos through a timepiece like no other. Every detail arises from a dialogue between the human hand and material, between light and time. This singular creation conveys my enduring fascination with the universe and its mysteries. It reveals its ultimate secret on the reverse side…”

A hand-engraved case
A mark of distinction
STARMAN is a unique creation. It is housed in an 18-carat white gold case measuring 47.4 mm in diameter. This watch’s technical and sculptural architecture stands out through its stepped profile and open-worked lugs, a remarkable construction that seals its singular identity.
The white-gold case is engraved by hand with a motif of intertwined lines that recall stellar trajectories. These paths seem to trace the eternal movement of the stars. When light touches the surface, the engraving comes to life: reliefs emerge, reflections shift and glide, revealing the depth of the artisan’s craft.
This fine decoration embodies the exceptional savoir-faire of the Louis Moinet Ateliers, an ideal harmony between technical mastery and artistic passion.
The STARMAN dial
a highly complex construction
A fragment of the Gibeon meteorite majestically dominates the upper part of the STARMAN’s dial and competes visually with the tourbillon.
The base of the dial, also shaped from Gibeon meteorite, has been dyed in a deep blue using an intricate—and secret process. A second sapphire-crystal disc bears a celestial map. In the foreground, constellations are painstakingly painted by hand with a luminescent material. They appear against the backdrop of the map’s longitudinal and latitudinal lines.
At night, the STARMAN reveals a magnificent stellar panorama, creating an illusion of depth that draws the eye into the immensity of the universe. This nocturnal spectacle is enhanced by vibrant blue hands and indexes, adding a touch of refined technical elegance to this exceptional timepiece.
The Gibeon meteorite, which fell to earth in prehistoric times, is famous for its emblematic Widmanstätten pattern.
The art of horology
The dial of the STARMAN seems to defy gravity with its flying tourbillon hovering in an off-centre cage. The hand-wound movement is driven by two barrels mounted in parallel. The system, called “volte face”, has one of the barrels turned upside-down or head-to-tail, so they deliver their energy simultaneously, producing a power reserve of ninety-six hours.
With the STARMAN, Jean-Marie Schaller has ventured into the mysteries of the cosmos. It stands as a spirited homage to Louis Moinet—a man whose passion for innovation and exploration will continue to resonate into the future.
The solar map and its riddle
Turn the STARMAN around, you will find a fascinating chart of the solar system. The planets, some of which only measure two millimetres in diameter, have been meticulously painted by hand and placed on a grid that seems to float over a star-lit sky.
The ultimate secret, however, is this: The planets have been precisely positioned as they appeared on March 21, 2013, when the world of watchmaking was stunned by an amazing revelation: Louis Moinet was the inventor of the chronograph. The public event was held at the Neuchâtel observatory, where Jean-Marie Schaller unveiled the famous compteur de tierces, which had been built by the great French watchmaker in 1816.
Honouring a unique moment
Upon request, the craftspeople at Louis Moinet can also personalise the watch by positioning the planets to tell a specific date. This is a unique way to immortalise a very special moment on the backdrop of a starry sky, a date that will only be known to the owner of the watch.
