It’s now official: The1816 has been shortlisted for the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) in the Chronograph category!
Since its unveiling this spring at Watches & Wonders, Louis Moinet’s 1816 has proven itself to be a genuine revelation of the year. This timepiece combines unique aesthetics with a dedicated mechanical movement inside.
Indeed, the 1816 reinterprets the aesthetic codes of the very first chronograph in history in a contemporary language. The grade 5 titanium case, with its understated and timeless lines, is directly inspired by the original piece. Behind the dial lies the LM1816 calibre: a manufacture movement comprised of 330 components and designed exclusively for this model to emphasise its unique character. The 1816 also introduces the first metal bracelet developed by the Louis Moinet workshops. It, too, is made of grade 5 titanium and named “BRIDGE project,” It has a sculptural design that is both fluid and ergonomic.
The 1816 timepiece illustrates how a pioneering work in watchmaking history can continue to be written two centuries on and with undiminished intensity.
