Les Ateliers Louis Moinet will be unveiling the FUEGO NUEVO at the SIAR exhibition in Mexico from October 15 to 17. This special timepiece recalls the Aztecs’ cyclical New Fire celebrations to greet the reborn sun.
Their monumental Piedra del Sol (Sun Stone) inspired the engraving on the dial, which is cut from the Muonionalusta, one of the oldest meteorites found on Earth.
A laser with ultra-short pulses in the femtosecond range was used to produce the 9800 lines needed to draw the many references to Aztec cosmogony.
The subtle relief of the dial is the result of it having three levels. The engraving is at two different depths, and the base is made of a contrasting aventurine ring, which adds to the aura of mystery that surrounds the entire creation.
The FUEGO NUEVO is a unique piece that puts ancient history and spiritual culture of the Aztec people at the centre of a technologically outstanding watch.
