Tempograph
Tempograph is the world’s first timepiece to feature a 10-second retrograde mechanism – a blued-steel tipped hand at 3 o’clock sweeping 10-second intervals to create a spellbinding ballet.
This stunning feature joyously enlivens the dial, while perfectly complementing the majestic hour and minute subdial at 12 o’clock.
The retrograde hand construction comprises 15 components meticulously crafted to micron tolerances to ensure perfectly smooth and reliable operation.
Its highlight is the mesmerising cam mechanism at 9 o’clock, visible through the open-worked dial, adding yet more spectacle to the retrograde’s visual theatre.
Fitted on a plate especially designed to highlight its operation, the cam is composed of six teeth and performs one rotation per minute, releasing the titanium and white gold hand adjusted to the hundredth of a gram.
Jean-Claude Sozzani, head of Tempograph’s technical development, explains: “Never before has a retrograde mechanism been fully revealed. Ours is particularly spectacular because of the cam and lever. The need to perfectly define its centre of gravity made this part especially complex to produce.”
So original is the retrograde mechanism that a patent has been duly filed for it.
Tempograph is completed by an exceptional case, comprising more than 40 bespoke parts painstakingly assembled while the automatic-winding movement consists of no fewer than 125 components.
